My Journey Through Journalism
I was one of those weird people who knew exactly what I wanted to do from day one and never changed my mind. In high school I decided that I wanted to be a journalist.

So I became a journalist.

In high school I worked for The Highlighter as the Arts & Entertainment editor, and then became Editor-in-Chief my senior year. That's when I truly found my love for editing and reporting.

Then in college I joined Northern Arizona University's newspaper, The Lumberjack, as a layout designer and a Culture reporter. The next few years I moved up as the assistant Arts & Entertainment editor, assistant Culture editor, then Features editor, and by my senior year, Editor-in-Chief. Newspaper has been my life for the past six years. I work my personal schedule around newspaper productions, and I always meet my deadlines.

My other passion in life is traveling, so during my junior year in college I was lucky enough to combine the two. I became the Editor-in-Chief of a magazine my colleagues and I built while I was abroad in the Netherlands, called International Insights. I was able to interview people from around the world, as well as design magazine pages and coordinate an editing effort between classmates so we were able to produce the best product we could in limited time.

All of the photos and videos in this portfolio are my own, and most come from my time abroad, visiting various countries.

In my college years, I was also lucky to have several internships. My first internship was with The Johnstown Breeze, a small newspaper in Johnstown, Colorado. I did some reporting, but mostly worked as the advertising manager, coordinating with the small-town businesses and designing ads for the paper each week.

My second internship was with the Grand Canyon National Park, working in Flagstaff with park rangers and their public relations team, designing press releases, posters in the canyon, as well as editing and redesigning the park's Fire Safety Manual.

I also acquired experience working as a student columnist for FlagLive!, Flagstaff's weekly entertainment newspaper.

I knew I wanted to be a journalist. And to this day my passion for journalism continues to grow, and I am more ready than ever to travel the world and tell people's stories.
